My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday is with J.J Spaun versus Aaron Rai in Round One head-to-head props. J.J. Spaun finished in a tie for 23rd place in his British Open debut last year. His elite ball-striking makes him a threat this year at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. The greens average just 5200 square feet — so getting on the green to putt for birdies or better is going to be a challenge this week. Spaun ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in Shots-Gained: Approach the Green. He won the Valero Texas Open earlier this year. Brian Harmon’s tie for 22nd place at the PGA Charles Schwab Challenge in May is his best result in his last 11 tournaments. He ranks just 67th on the PGA Tour in Shots-Gained: Approach the Green. If and when Harmon misses the green on Thursday, he will then have to contend with his ranking of 67th on the tour in Shots-Gained: Around the Green.
